Stew Flaherty

Stewart Flaherty,

AIF®, ChFC®, CLU®, CRC® CEO, FlahertyColvin Registered Principal, RJFS

A simple question from a Westerville, Ohio athlete – “Can you help me raise money?” – sparked a journey that would change the landscape of women’s bobsledding worldwide. Through relentless determination, strategic fundraising and an unwavering commitment to success, Stew played the key role in developing a team that ultimately secured the first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s bobsledding at the 2002 Winter Games. That same passion, focus and problem-solving drive define Stew’s approach to financial advising.

With more than 50 years of experience, Stew has built a career centered on helping clients navigate the complexities of wealth management. At FlahertyColvin, he and his team are dedicated to ensuring that financial plans align seamlessly with clients’ lifestyles, aspirations and personal values. He understands that financial stability is not just about numbers – it’s about confidence, opportunity and the freedom to pursue what matters most.

Stew believes that life is full of unexpected moments, what he calls “life happens” events. Just as a single raindrop creates ripples in a puddle, unforeseen financial challenges can spread beyond their initial impact. “We can’t manage the droplet itself, but we can help our clients navigate the ripples,” he explains. His approach is rooted in foresight, strategic planning and proactive problem-solving, helping to ensure that clients can move forward with confidence no matter what comes their way.

Stew’s expertise is backed by an array of financial credentials, including Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) and Certified Retirement Counselor® (CRC®). He also holds Series 7, 24, 31, 63 and 65 securities registrations through Raymond James. Additionally, he is the author of two books on financial planning.

Beyond finance, Stew has always been deeply committed to his community. For more than three decades, he played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s direction, serving as Westerville Mayor, Westerville City Councilman and a Blendon Township Trustee. His efforts earned him the title of Westerville’s Citizen of the Year* in 1993, along with the President’s Award* in recognition of his impact.

A lifelong learner and adventurer, Stew thrives on new experiences. He is a lifetime member of MENSA, a world traveler, photographer, gardener, hockey player, coach and even a beekeeper. Whether exploring different cultures, refining his craft behind the lens, or tending to his garden, he embraces every opportunity to expand his knowledge and deepen his passions.

But at the core of everything, Stew values family above all else. His most cherished roles are those of husband, father, and grandfather, titles that remind him daily of the importance of legacy, connection and the profound impact we have on the people around us.

At FlahertyColvin, Stew continues to lead with vision, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to his clients’ success. Whether navigating major financial decisions or preparing for life’s unexpected turns, he remains steadfast in his mission – to provide guidance and confidence so that every client can work for the future they envision.
